4 Traits of Every Kobe Bryant Hater

October 5, 2009

Not personally liking Kobe Bryant or the Lakers is a preference. An opinion. That’s it. Its sports. And in sports we all have our preferences and opinions. And we respect each other for it. We argue. We debate. It keeps us (particularly men) entertained and sane as we go throughout our work days. But then, there are Kobe Haters!

grey 4 Traits of Every Kobe Bryant Hater

Kobe Haters Are A Different Breed

Kobe Bryant haters are of a different planet. They are not just sports fanatics. They are oddly obsessed with the tearing down at any opportunity of perhaps one of the greatest athletes we have ever seen. A perfect example of this was during the 05-06 season when Kobe scored his memorable 81 points in one game. While sports fans across the world were “buzzing”, Kobe haters were hiding in their basements manufacturing statistics and opinions on why it was a bad thing.

“He only shot in the mid 40% range” they cried. Odd? Yes. Very odd!

Recently sports writer Hadarii Jones over at Bleacher Report wrote an article about The Anatomy of A Hater. A good read and I suggest it. It has prompted me to write this. The 4 personality traits of every Kobe Bryant Hater. They are:

1. Intelligent

Let’s start off on a positive note here. Kobe haters are traditionally very intelligent. But let me be clear here. They are intelligent more with statistics and have a very low understanding of the game itself. Many of these guys were the ones on the bleachers spectating during High School. Nevertheless, these haters are smart with their basketball statistics and will use those stats any chance they get.

2. Hypocrite

Kobe haters are quick to call out personal things that Kobe Bryant has either done or been accused of. They go to far in their statements and often cross the line. They use personal attacks on Kobe’s personal life that have nothing to do with the game of basketball. These personal attacks are used the most often as a means of proving why Kobe is not the greatest. As the reader they assume that we assume, they are perfect human beings and have never made any mistakes.

3. Ignorant

These people are very intelligent with sports statistics, but very ignorant when it comes to Basketball IQ. They don’t understand the intangibles of the game. Things like leadership, heart, killer instinct etc. You can see why they hate Kobe. It’s because these are the traits that make Kobe so special. But because Kobe haters don’t acknowledge this aspect of sports they only focus on everything else.

They also are ignorant to the fundamental details of the game of basketball that make it so special. Things like ball handling, shooting, footwork, court vision etc. All they see is dunks and 3 pointers!

4. Obsessive

Kobe haters can be scary! Obsessively scary. They go far out of their way to write “hateful” things about Kobe Bryant. To say hateful things in to their friends and peers. Almost as if Kobe Bryant had personally attacked them somehow. I’m not a psychologist, so i’m not sure where this obsessiveness comes from. But it’s strange to say the least.

Did I miss any? Comments are welcome!

Great article. All the Kobe haters know he is a great player, but try to attack him personally when their attempt at degrading him fails. I always get, “I didn’t say he wasn’t a great player, it’s just that he is sooo cocky.” I hate that excuse that everyone seems to use once they don’t have anything else to argue about. Well put!

    Great Article you have here,

This is very true, Iv experienced arguing with these people so many times. And the thought that they are really a hater?

Even when you state facts about Kobe and his accomplishment, they still don’t care about his accomplishment and achievements.

And I can’t find any reasons why they hate him so much, isn’t it his ego? his attitude? his drive to be the best? his work ethic?

I don’t know but, in some positive note I thank this Haters because Kobe used this negative criticism to work hard and what he is right now is a statement that you just can’t stop him to be the best.

I wouldn’t quite go as far as calling Kobe haters “intelligent”. It’s not that hard to collect stats on just about any player in any sport. They’re more like “victims” of their own crusade since they believe in the garbage they fabricate as actual fact. Which is very disturbing and creepy. Not only that, they actually help “market” Kobe and the Lakers as much as any Laker fan. That’s why I call them “secret bandwagoners.”

Secret Bandwagoners. It’s perfect! And you’re right. It’s not hard to collect stats. I should revisit my opinion on calling these “haters” intelligent.

Kobe Bryant is the biggest bitch the NBA has ever had!!! You’re right it has nothing to do with his skills as a “scorer” but as a player or leader,,,hell no. He never has been and never will be even in the same category as Jordan.

nuff said. I don’t like him because he is idolized by fans and youth. While he is a great and talented athlete, him being able to “pay” his way out of this case just sends out the message to youth and other athletes… Do what you what… if you have the money you can buy yourself pardon. He is not a good MORAL role model to anyone.

  • Carey

yeah everyone knows kobes an amazing player…am i right? i personally don’t like him. i think he is a poor sport, cocky and just ignorant. im a huge bball fan and was watching the celtics vs knicks game, Amar’e Stoudemire…thats what basketball is all about, sharing the ball and bein one with your team…theres no I in team but there is me, and you are part of the team but your not gonna win championships by yourself

  • Mike

Your article is not very original. It might as well have been a love letter to Kobiach himself. He’s a great player. No doubt about that. And I can’t thank him enough for pushing Shaq out of LA. So the Spurs could take down 3 more championships. Kobe is a great player sure. But he got too much credit for the championships they won in 2000, 2001 and 2002 with Shaq. And he got too much credit for the last two. Could the Lakers have won them without him? No. Could he have won them without Shaq, Horry, Fischer, Artest, Pau Gasol and David Stern’s refs? No, definitely not. But he is and has been the centerpiece for a long time. I’m fine with his 5 rings in retrospect. But I will be pissed if he wins again and goes on top! Jordan will always be the greatest player of all time, not Kobe.

All y’all shut the f*** up and stop hating on . I’m a bulls fan all the way but we can’t deny that Kobe is an amazing player! Y’all are saying that he is selfish and a ballhog. That he would of never won all those championships without shap, horry, gasol, or artest. If he was a ballhog that he would of never won all those championships with those players cuz they would of never got the ball obviously. It’s not his fault he has money and he xan pay his way out of everything. And it’s not his fault he is idolized my fans and the youth. Y’all should be mad at the fans and the youth for idolizing him and the paparazzi for following him around. Nobody is trying to compare him to Jordan cuz there is no comparison so stfu about that
