Another Celtic At It Again – This Time It’s Sheed Boasting!

Just when you thought we could get to the regular season without any more boastings from Celtic players, Rasheed Wallace decides to take his turn. Sheed decided to “one up” his partner Paul Pierce by predicting this years Boston squad to win 72 games matching the 96′ Bulls. Here is the direct quote from Tom Halzack of the Connecticut Post:

“Oh definitely. Definitely, playing with those three other guys, also combining that with the guys we have on the bench, I think we can definitely can. Me personally, I think we can get that Bulls record. You know we have the talent for it. We have the will for it and…I think we have the defense for it.”

Do you want me to use that? “You can. Because honestly, I really do feel that. That was a good team. They had some HOFs on there, but we have a few on this team, too.” That’s a high mark to shoot for…”Definitely.”
Sounds glamarous and all Sheed, but seriously. What are you thinking? 72 wins? There’s a distinct difference between your team and the 72 win Chicago Bulls in 1996. You know what that is? A player known as MJ. You don’t have him on your team. Which is one of the biggest reasons why you won’t reach 70 wins.

“The guys we have on the bench”

This Boston bench that is being referred too by Rasheed Wallace needs to be pointed out. This is not necessarily a “championship” caliber bench like so many people are claiming it to be. The starting squad definitely is. There is no doubting that. But the bench?

The Celtics championship bench from 2 years ago featured P.J Brown, James Posey, Sam Cassell, and surprise of the year Leon Powe. All 4 of these players are no longer in Boston! So why again is this a bench that can win a championship, let alone 72 wins?

Let’s look at who these 4 players have been replaced by. Glen Davis, Marquis Daniels, Eddie House, and Shelden Williams. Hmm. Interesting.

Rasheed! Your bench is not as strong as you think it is. You have aged more than you think you have. And your mouth is way too big for a guy who has only 1 ring. There are 2 teams in particular in this league with much stronger benches than your team has. The Cavs and the Lakers. You oughtta watch out for them first before opening your mouth so abruptly.

  1. The direct quote from Sheed is not from Slam Online. It was from Tom Halzack of Celtics Central of the Connecticut Post.

Slam picked it up like everyone else. Give credit where credit is due and give a guy his day in the sun.

    Thanks,
    T

  2. gotcha covered Tom. I updated the link and cited you as the source. Thanks for informing me of this. Slam Magazine does a bad job of citing sources!!!

  3. 72 wins? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

  4. Hahahaha it’s definitely a joke!

    He certainly wants an attention…

I think he meant about 72 wins is seasons+playoffs lol

I would say this season they’ll probably win 59-63 games
and will be eliminated by the EC semis by either Orlando or Cavs.

  5. Thanks for the fix.

After that, LA Times (and others) picked it up from Sporting News and attributed it from them. I guess I can’t win. lol!

I appreciate you making the change.

    peace,
    Tom
