Kobe Bryant showed no signs Tuesday of the stomach flu he endured during the Lakers’ previous game in Cleveland.
In fact, he didn’t exhibit any sort of residual weakness that Phil Jackson had been concerned about – either in fortitude or scoring. He tallied 34 points in the Lakers’ 105-98 victory against Oklahoma City and became the youngest to reach 23,000 points.
“I feel good. I feel really good,” he said. “I got rested up, got fluids in me, got some decent meals in me.”
So was the nausea and vomiting as bad as it seemed in Cleveland? Yes, but Bryant said it wasn’t nearly as bad as the food poisoning the encountered during the 2002 playoffs against Sacramento. Like he did in Cleveland, Bryant needed IVs to get through the game.
“Cheeseburgers and cheesecake did it,” Bryant said. “It killed cheesecake for me.”
