Chris Webber a Laker?
There’s a lot of talk going around concerning Chris Webber and the possibility of him becoming a Laker possibly even by the end of this week. Here is what his agent recently had to say concerning the matter according to the L.A Times:
“We’ve talked to the Lakers organization several times prior to Andrew’s unfortunate injury,” said Webber’s agent, Aaron Goodwin. “Obviously, they’re a much better team with Andrew playing than they are without him. I think [Webber] will make a decision where he’s going to play this week.”
He also added that Chris Webber is in good playing shape right now and is not only interested in a team that can guarantee him a starting position. It appears that all signs are pointing to the Lakers getting Chris Webber. Maybe before the end of the week! Lakers Nation is discussing this topic in a thread. Here’s my take! Chris Webber in his prime was a dominant player. He led the Sacramento Kings to several good seasons. And if it wasn’t for Robert Horry, he would have a championship on his belt right
now. He is not as good as he once was. Those old knees have really broken down on him and he doesn’t get the lift he once had. However, we are talking about a man with high basketball IQ. An unselfish player who can shoot the ball from the elbow and one of the best passing big men we have ever seen in the game. And just because his knees are bad doesn’t mean he can’t shoot or pass. He just can’t dunk like he used too that’s all.
It’s obvious that with his skills he fits perfectly into the triangle offense. I don’t think it will take him too long to pick it up because he played against it for so long. I still think that Webber has a couple more seasons left in him and that his experience and his skill can help the Lakers go farther in the playoffs than how they stand now. The Lakers organization is stupid and incompetent if they can’t make this one happen. By getting Chris Webber, then getting Bynum back, keeping everyone healthy, and maybe training Kwame Brown’s big contract to get one more final piece it’s possible that this team could make a championship run this season!
