Well on his way to breaking Michael Jordan’s record before the start of the 2012 All-Star Game, Kobe well surpassed him by the end. He not only made 6 of his first 7 shots, but two of those were 3-pointers. It was his two-handed slam in the third quarter that officially sealed the deal. Aside from breaking the record of a legend, Kobe managed to suffer a break to the nose. It was courtesy of Dwayne Wade, playing hard defense (I know, right?) in an All-Star game. Other highlights include Lebron James with a 4th quarter comeback attempt that led to a pass instead of a win. Although his 36 points are nothing to scoff at, as well as Dwayne Wade’s 24-10-10 triple double. Even with a broken nose and a broken record, Kobe only scored 27 and lost the MVP to Kevin Durant. Durant led the West with 36 points and took home the trophy.
And here they sit:
271 – Kobe Bryant
262 – Michael Jordan
251 – Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
246 – Oscar Robertson
Who do you think will be next? Maybe Lebron, maybe Durant. Only time will tell. The 2013 All Star Game will be held in Houston, TX.
