Paul Pierce is already making a fool of himself again. He told Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports that the Celtics are a lock to win it all this next season. All this trash talk after losing in the Eastern Conference Semi’s to the Magic last season. And now magically those same Celtics are “the best team in the NBA”. Here is word for word what Paul Pierce said.
“Before the season even started last year, I was asked, ‘What is going to stop y’all from winning it all?’ ” Pierce said in a phone interview on Thursday. “The first thing I said was, ‘If we’re healthy, we’re going to win it all.’ And I’m going to say it again: ‘If we are healthy, we are going to win it all.”
“I honestly believe that. I think we’re the best team in the NBA, healthy.”
My Message To Paul Pierce
A couple things you should understand Paul Pierce. Credit in the NBA history books does not go to teams that “were really good but just were not healthy”. Honestly Pierce that’s not a good enough excuse. When we look at the record books we don’t say Bill Walton was the greatest center of all time, he would have proven it had he stayed healthy! No! The fact is Bill Walton couldn’t stay healthy and therefore is not one of the top 5 centers to ever play the game. Could he have been? Sure. But he’s not. Period.
Pierce, nobody cares that your team couldn’t stay healthy last season. What will go down in the history books is that the Lakers, not the Celtics won the 2008-2009 NBA Title. If your team was the better team, you would have won the title. Now let’s talk about this upcoming season.
The Eastern Conference Reality
The Celtics will be a force in the Eastern Conference. There is no doubting that. But for Paul Pierce to guarantee a championship is not only stupid, it’s ignorant. The Cleveland Cavaliers are clearly built to do one thing, and that is beat the Boston Celtics. If you run the tape of all the games the two teams have played against each other for the past 2 seasons, you will see what I see. That is that it takes literally 2 Paul Pierces to stop Lebron James. Lebron dominates Pierce so clearly that you completely forget that Pierce is even a decent player.
Cleveland although losing to the Magic in the Eastern Conference Finals would most definitely have beaten the Celtics had they matched up in the playoffs. Even with a healthy Garnett. Their regular season matchups prove this point. And now the Cavs have only improved their lineup(some guy named shaq). And you know Lebron will come back better this year than he was last year (which is scary to think about).
My point is, let’s not discuss whether or not the Celtics can beat the Lakers in the Finals when the Celtics are not even the favorites to come out of the East. They will have to prove to the world that they are better than Cleveland. Because right now on paper, it looks like Cleveland is going to the NBA Finals this year.
