Someone Please Tell Paul Pierce He’s Embarrassing Himself!

September 26, 2009

Paul Pierce is already making a fool of himself again. He told Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports that the Celtics are a lock to win it all this next season. All this trash talk after losing in the Eastern Conference Semi’s to the Magic last season. And now magically those same Celtics are “the best team in the NBA”. Here is word for word what Paul Pierce said.

“Before the season even started last year, I was asked, ‘What is going to stop y’all from winning it all?’ ” Pierce said in a phone interview on Thursday. “The first thing I said was, ‘If we’re healthy, we’re going to win it all.’ And I’m going to say it again: ‘If we are healthy, we are going to win it all.”

“I honestly believe that. I think we’re the best team in the NBA, healthy.”

My Message To Paul Pierce

A couple things you should understand Paul Pierce. Credit in the NBA history books does not go to teams that “were really good but just were not healthy”. Honestly Pierce that’s not a good enough excuse. When we look at the record books we don’t say Bill Walton was the greatest center of all time, he would have proven it had he stayed healthy! No! The fact is Bill Walton couldn’t stay healthy and therefore is not one of the top 5 centers to ever play the game. Could he have been? Sure. But he’s not. Period.

Pierce, nobody cares that your team couldn’t stay healthy last season. What will go down in the history books is that the Lakers, not the Celtics won the 2008-2009 NBA Title. If your team was the better team, you would have won the title. Now let’s talk about this upcoming season.

The Eastern Conference Reality

The Celtics will be a force in the Eastern Conference. There is no doubting that. But for Paul Pierce to guarantee a championship is not only stupid, it’s ignorant. The Cleveland Cavaliers are clearly built to do one thing, and that is beat the Boston Celtics. If you run the tape of all the games the two teams have played against each other for the past 2 seasons, you will see what I see. That is that it takes literally 2 Paul Pierces to stop Lebron James. Lebron dominates Pierce so clearly that you completely forget that Pierce is even a decent player.

Cleveland although losing to the Magic in the Eastern Conference Finals would most definitely have beaten the Celtics had they matched up in the playoffs. Even with a healthy Garnett. Their regular season matchups prove this point. And now the Cavs have only improved their lineup(some guy named shaq). And you know Lebron will come back better this year than he was last year (which is scary to think about).

My point is, let’s not discuss whether or not the Celtics can beat the Lakers in the Finals when the Celtics are not even the favorites to come out of the East. They will have to prove to the world that they are better than Cleveland. Because right now on paper, it looks like Cleveland is going to the NBA Finals this year.

Hello, Cleveland has not beaten the Celtics in playoffs yet, so shut the [explicit] up about Lebron dominating Pierce. As I remember, the year we won, Pierce dominated James AND your boy Kobe in successive series. So much so that people were doubting if Lebron was not OVERRATED. By the way, if Lebron is so dominating, how come he didn’t help out to D-up Howard last playoffs? After Ilgauskas, Lebron was there biggest and stronges physical player last year, but he couldn’t help to play some D when Howard was dunking the [explicit] out of the ball every play? Remember Magic (Johnson) playing center to beat my Celtics? That is the way great players respond. Lebron chose to lose and run off the court like a bitch…….

Yeah, Kobe is nice, but Lakers have not beaten Celtics on way to their rings either, so look at your results, and realize…..Celtics team to beat this season.

You must be just another ignorant Boston fan. Seriously. How are the Celtics the team to beat this season after losing in the Eastern Conference Semi’s? You are still dreaming about your magical season in 07-08. But that year is over.

You have veterans past their prime (Allen & Wallace). You have a disgruntled point guard (Rondo). An overrated small forward (Pierce) and the 1 piece on your team who is a legitimate star (Garnett) is still unhealthy. All of this and you think you can get past the Cavs in the East?

  • lakerfanatico

Hey paul & lex get back down to reality. Celtics are the team to beat? yea and I’m Superman disquise as clark keen, u are the 4th seed out of the east at best, or did u forget the young Bulls that took u to seven games, then Cleveland that got more loaded and the eventual east champs Orlando that beat u. Please stop embarrassing yourself.

couldn’t have said it better myself!

Lakers are going to be 2010 Champs once again. Dream on! Kobe is still the best player in the world. We have Artest to put anybody to the test. So bring it on lames.

delusions aside. it’s a general understanding that the defending champ will always be the team to beat until proven otherwise. that’s what the celtics were last season until they got beaten twice by the Lakers in the regular season and topped off with their second-round ousting at the hands of the magic (the team in the east no one expected to get to the finals).

the problem with the celtics is they always think that they’re better than they actually are. they have an aging starting unit combined with a pathetic bench. they had a chance to really strengthen their bench this summer, but all they can show up for is Rasheed Wallace and Marquis Daniels? they seriously think those two will be that much of a difference against the east let alone the lakers?

they barely got past the young, inexperienced bulls. and, they think they could’ve beaten the young but experienced Lakers (who were on a mission of winning the title no matter who gets in their way) four times if they had gotten to the finals with or without KG? HA!

in the 2008 Finals, the out-manned, overwhelmed Lakers still managed two wins and were never blown out until the last deciding game…with bynum out and ariza still rehabbing from his knee injury.

this year, the lakers are much tougher, even more experienced and gotten more potent with ron artest. how’s that for a psych job?

“the problem with the celtics is they always think that they’re better than they actually are.” – very well said!!!!

So this must clearly be a Pro-Laker group here, all purple and gold colors…..

Yes we (Celtics) had to fight to get past the Bulls, but we were without KG AND Powe. And the Bulls were in better health. (And PLEASE don’t count Luol Deng as being able to make a difference if he was healthy).

And as for the 2008 finals…I really don’t see a healthy Bynum or Ariza making much difference, do you? Perk clearly out-played Bynum every game that year, especially that 110-91 debacle in LA during the regular season where Lamar Odumb got mad and tackled Ray Allen–all because KG had thrown his shot.

And what is this about the Celtics age? They still get it done.

And as for the Magic..everyone here should be able to clearly note how Perk slowed down Dwight Howard in that series….again WITHOUT KG and Powe. And Big Baby stepped up big time in that series. Let’s see the Magic beat the Celtics again this year with Sheed and a Healthy KG. And Perk will be a year older and Better.

And let’s not forget that Kobe is 30…and even HE will start to slow down soon………who is his replacement? Artest?

And Cleveland VS Boston this year….let’s see Shaq try to chase Sheed out to the 3-point line whenever Sheed is in the game, lol. Who will be left under the basket? Varejao? And Boston has enough weapons to slow down Lebron Lames. We don’t have to stop him, just slow him down.

Just admit it..over the next few years the Banner count will be 18 (or even 19) Banners for the Celtics to the Lakers 15. No more banners for Lakers, for a few more years. I will give the Lakers the 15th banner against the over-matched Magic, but Gasol will DEFINITELY need more help against a Celtics Team with KG, Perk and Sheed up front. He will be worn down and frustrated.

Just give the Celtics credit..Pierce said it correctly: If they are healthy they are the favorites. Easily a nine or ten man deep team.

I can’t wait till Artest blows up the team chemistry and has another season shoot %40 on FGs. I can’t wait till Bynum shows up to camp out of shape and unmotivated. I can’t wait till you start to see Odom’s contract as the albatross that it is. I love the fact that you are paying $13mil to three players that wouldn’t even crack the celtics rotation in Walton and Vujacic and Morrison.

The Celtics have the best starting 5 in basketball. We will have a guaranteed 3 All-Stars (Pierce, Garnett, and Rondo) and it wouldn’t surprise me to see Ray Ray back there again. We got THE best big man that you could hope for with the MLE. Essentially we will have 3 starters coming off the bench in Daniels, Sheed and Big Baby. PLUS we still have the expiring contacts of Scal and T. Allen to shop for MORE help at some point during the season (Nocioni anyone??)

I hope we see the Lakers in the finals because it will be such sweet redemption to remind everyone of what last year should have been.

I love it! Nothing better than Lakers and Celtics fans arguing with each other. You do have a good point about Shaq chasing around Sheed. That is going to be very funny. And ultimately could decide that entire series when it happens. And I will admit, Perk plays fantastic against Bynum whenever he matches up with him. I just can’t argue with you on that one.

But you can’t say Kobe is slowing down at age 30 and not admit that KG, Allen, Pierce, and Sheed are not slowing down.

In all honesty I really think you guys have a great chance of winning it all this year. Fantastic team. Great chemistry. One of the best defenses the game has ever seen. But after this season I really don’t see that much from you guys. The window is closing! Even Doc admitted to this.

  • admin

I can’t wait until Sheed and Rondo blow up the team chemistry in Boston! Seriously man you don’t have the best starting 5, you have the best big man in the game. KG. Without him you are nothing. He steers the ship. And if you’re other 4 were so good, they could of at least gotten past the Orlando Magic in the Eastern semi’s.

You can hype up KG all you want. He deserves it. But please don’t hype up these other scrubs and claim they are better than the team that just won it all!

    admin,

I can clearly see you are a diehard Lakers fan. But even in worse case scenario (KG not being well) I can see the Celtics playing the Lakers in the Finals this year. If I remember correctly, the Lakers were in the running for Sheed this summer as well, but Sheed saw his best opportunity for a Ring with Boston.

Doc was right—he stated last week that the Lakers are the most talented group. But what he tells the Celtics in the locker room is that they are the Best TEAM.

I marvel at how close the decimated Celtics TEAM was to actually beating the Magic in the playoffs last year. We would have overcame them with a healthy Powe, much less KG.

Yes KG will go down in history as maybe one of the best 20 players of all time, but he has ALWAYS been about TEAM. When the Celtics owned the Lakers in the Finals in 2008, KG’s numbers were not flashy, and in a couple of games he seemed sub-par. But his TEAM MATES pulled the Celtics through.

And as for this “Window”…it (the window) is still wide open enough for one or two championships…..the key is that when ESPN is reviewing the Celtics-Lakers rivalry 20 years from now they will say that the Celtics STILL have more Championships than LA and everyone else.

LA has a window, too, you know. Once Kobe goes away, who will take his place? I honestly give Kobe maybe two more years before his skills start to bring him back down to earth with everyone else. And it has been proven (Back in the 2008 Finals) that a TEAM committed to defense can slow Kobe down considerably. I watched that series, and he NEVER had an open shot….Also keep in mind that the Celtics now have even more people to throw at Kobe (Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Marquis Daniels, Tony Allen).

    Celtics in 2009-2010! Probably 2010-2011!
